The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi government has decided to repair roads across the national capital, a plan which it had deferred till the end of the monsoon season.

"We will repair those roads which need to be fixed. So far, the government had been focusing only on filling potholes which left most stretches uneven," a senior government official said.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and PWD Minister Satyendar Jain had on Sunday inaugurated the renovation work of roads in East Delhi.

Major roads in Delhi — including the Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road, which are considered the national capital's lifeline — fall under the Delhi PWD's jurisdiction.

According to estimates, the total length of roads in the national capital is nearly 30,000 km, which also include over 300 km of national highways.

Around 1,260 km of roads fall under the PWD, while over 28,000 km, mostly in residential colonies, falls under the jurisdiction of the three municipal corporations.
