The government would start construction work on the proposed satellite town at Thirumazhisai in Thiruvallur district within three months, said housing minister R Vaithilingam.

Speaking in the Assembly, the minister said they had acquired 90 per cent of the land for the project.

The township will be built at a cost of Rs 2,160 crore by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board on 311.05 acre at Thirumazhisai, on the Chennai-Bangalore National highway integrating Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram, Narasingapuram and Vellavedu villages.

The highway houses some of the big manufacturing units including Hyundai, Saint Gobain, Samsung and Nokia.

It will have around 12,000 apartments and will be sold to economically weaker sections and middle income group. The government would acquire around 12.87 acres from the owners after consultations for developing link roads to the township. It would also have all basic facilities.
