Work on suburban rail systems on

Work on three main suburban transport systems "" Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai "" were in full progress, the Outcome Budget presented to Parliament has said.
 
Princeghat-Majerhat and Dum Dum Cantt-NSC Bose Airport section would be linked with the existing circular railway Kolkata and these two sections would be commissioned, the budget presented yesterday said.
 
Railways have targeted gauge conversion of 980 route km during the year 2005-06, which included the targets set by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL).
 
The outcome budget said the ministry of railways had also targeted 219 km new tracks, including the target set by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.
 
It had set the target of 538 route km of doubling of tracks, and electrification of 350 route km during the said period, it said and added that it had also planned track renewal of 4,000 km during the period.
 
The railways had decided to pick up 563 stations and track circuiting in 1,764 locations. Rehabilitation work at 300 stations had been targeted during the fiscal.
