Workshop calls for exploiting Asian livestock potential

 The workshop was jointly organised by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).

 Thirty-eight participants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam participated in the workshop.

 Eminent agricultural economist John W Mellor, in his keynote address, highlighted the importance of livestock, which he said is a powerful engine of economic growth.

 Chris Delgado of the International Food Policy Research Institute and other participants presented papers.

 Mellor said the role of the small holder is significant because of the employment and poverty reduction impacts their growth triggers. Large-scale operations do not have this advantage.
