The World Association of Newspapers (WAN) would conduct WAN Congress-2009 for four days from November 30 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre here. It is for the first time that the event is being held in South Asia. President Prathiba Patil will address the joint sessions of the World Newspapers Congress, a platform to exchange ideas with owners of newspapers, editors and journalists, and World Editors Forum, where senior journalists and editors will participate, on December 1.
WAN was founded in 1948 with 76 national newspapers as members with objectives of defending and promoting press freedom, safeguarding ethical and economic interests of newspapers, promoting cooperation among members, fostering communications and contacts between newspaper executives, training programs and research and development activities.
Newsprint suppliers, ink manufacturers, news agencies, content providers, machinery manufacturers, software and technology solution providers will showcase their products, a release said.
