Showering praise on former Finance Minister and current Home Minister P Chidambaram, World Bank President Robert B Zoellick today said he played a good role not only for India but also for the world economy.

"We were colleague when he (Chidambaram) was Finance Minister. He played a very good role. Not only for India but for the international economic system," Zoellick told reporters after meeting Chidambaram.

"I consider him as a friend who is interested in getting his perspective on general situations, economically and regionally," the World Bank chief added.

The duo are understood to have discussed about several projects in their about half-an-hour meeting.

Zoellick, who is on a four-day visit to the country, is expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee tomorrow.
