The World Bank has sanctioned $4.9-billion (over Rs 22,000 crore) loans to India in 2009-10 for 14 schemes and projects undertaken by the government, Parliament was informed today.
"In the last financial year (April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010), the World Bank has extended 14 loans to the government schemes or projects with total assistance of $4,901.8 million," Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena informed the Lok Sabha.
For efficient execution of World bank-assisted projects in order to improve service delivery of various government schemes, a number of measures have been undertaken, Meena said.
He further said a project readiness checklist for streamlining the preparation of multilateral assisted projects have been prepared.
"The review mechanism of the World Bank assisted projects have been strengthened by introducing bi-annual joint portfolio review meeting, quarterly review of problem projects and periodic state level review meetings," Meena added.
