World Bank suspends support to PLA

The World Bank has decided to stop funding the Maoist combatants stationed in UN monitored cantonments in the country after its chief Prachanda was shown inflating the number of soldiers in a video.  

The World Bank had pledged to provide assistance of $50 million under its emergency peace support programme.

A part of the fund is used to pay the salaries of about 19,594 members of the People's Liberation Army (PLA)of the Maoist stationed in UN cantonments.

But after the controversial video tape of Prachanda emerged a couple of months ago, the World Bank has changed its plan regarding its support to the PLA fighters, The Kathmandu Post reported quoting Finance Minister Surendra Pandey.
