"The permanent court of arbitration is also considering establishment of its facility in India to cater to the needs of South Asian countries," the minister said, adding that recent legal reforms will provide comfort to investors in India that their commercial disputes will be resolved faster.
Inaugurating 47th annual session of the Asian African Legal Consultative organisation (AALCO), Bhardwaj said "We can share experience of AALCO with the institutions concerned in India to gain from the organisation's experience in this area."
Elaborating on the legal reforms in India, the Law Minister said the country has taken initiative to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanism with a view to check the huge backlog of cases.
"We have brought about necessary changes in the code of civil procedure which mandates every judicial officer to explore the possibility of settling the civil disputes through alternative disputes resolution mechanism," he said.
It is only when the parties involved in a legal dispute fail to arrive at a consensus following this mechanism that the court will proceed further, Bhardwaj said.
