World Bank to help UP in freight corridor project

Will prepare structure plans for three regional growth clusters proposed on Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor alignment passing through state

World Bank would prepare structure plans for three regional growth clusters proposed on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) alignment passing through Uttar Pradesh.

The proposed regions are Auraiya-Kannauj-Kanpur including Kanpur Dehat, Allahabad-Varanasi including Kaushambi and Sant Ravidas Nagar and Agra-Aligarh including Mathura, Hathras and Firozabad.

The decision was taken today after World Bank made a presentation on draft report on 'Strategic Regional Development Options for UP' before UP infrastructure & industrial development principal secretary Surya Pratap Singh here.

A World Bank team is in UP as part of exercise to prepare an Option Paper for EDFC.

The proposed alignment of 1,840 km long EDFC, starting from Punjab, includes UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. UP is the biggest beneficiary of EDFC project with nearly 57 per cent measuring 1,049 km dissecting the state.
 

The state government had submitted the concept paper on developing Amritsar-Delhi-Kolkata Industrial Corridor to be developed on the lines of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor on Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
