World leaders to discuss role of India, China

As the prominence of Asia in the world economy grows amid slowdown in other geographies like Europe, leaders from across the globe will meet this weekend to deliberate on the role countries like India and China will play.The 2012 edition of the India Today Conclave will focus on

'An Asian Century: Securing the Global Promise' and will see participation of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former US Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman Jr, among others.

"With the global economic turmoil, everyone is looking at Asia as a saviour. With countries like India and China still showing good growth rates, we want to use the platform to understand what is driving the growth and the role these economies will play in the future," India Today Group Digital Chief Operating Officer Kalli Purie said.

 

The event will see discussions like 'From Dictatorship to Democracy' by Anwar bin Ibrahim, Leader of the Opposition and Former Deputy Prime Minister, Malaysia and 'The Liberty Verses' with author Salman Rushdie.

There would be a session on 'South Asia Brainstorm - Dynasty a Burden or Boon?' with Sri Lanka MP Namal Rajapaksa, Bangladesh Special Adviser to Awami League Sajeeb Wazed, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Pakistani journalist Shehrbano Taseer.

The event will also see participation from Anna Hazare, cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Nasser Hussain, Hockey player Sandeep Singh, Shooting champion Shagun Chowdhary and actor Kareena Kapoor, among others.

From the world of business, Fortis Healthcare Executive Chairman Malvinder Singh, Godrej Group Chairman Adi Godrej, Chief Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu and Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj will discuss the Budget 2012.
