54% voting in Assam till 3 PM

Long queues of voters, including women and youth, were seen in front of the 3,698 polling booths

A total of 54 % votes were cast till 3 pm for the three Lok Sabha seats in Assam where polling is on in the second phase today.

Election office sources said polling was peaceful and Karimganj(SC)recorded 55 % polling, Silchar 65 % and Autonomous District(ST) comprising Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district 45 %.

EVM malfunctioning was reported in Autonomous District and Karimganj constituencies. The machines were later replaced and voting continued uninterrupted, the sources said.

Voters, including women and youth, formed long queues before the 3698 polling booths of the three constituencies an hour before polling began at 7 am.
 
A total 29,26,762, including 15,26,082 women and 86 others will cast their votes during the day.
