62 candidates in first phase of Jharkhand polls

The four Lok Sabha seats are Chatra, Koderma, Palamau and Lohardagga

The first phase of the Lok Sabha election in Jharkhand April 10 will see voting for four seats, with 62 candidates in the fray, an official Thursday.

The four Lok Sabha seats are Chatra, Koderma, Palamau and Lohardagga. There are 20 candidates each from the Chatra and Koderma constituencies, 13 for the Palamau seat and nine for the Lohardagga seats.

The Lok Sabha election in Jharkhand for its 14 seats will take place in three phases - April 10, 17 and 24.

A total 66 candidates had filed nomination papers. But two candidates withdrew their nominations and two other nominations were cancelled on technical grounds.

 

Former Director General of Police of Jharkhand V.D. Ram is fighting for the Palamau seat on a BJP ticket, while Bharatiya Janta Party state president Rabindra Rai is fighting for the Koderma seat.

Former minister Rameshwar Oraon is fighting for the Lohardagga seat, while former Maoist leader and sitting MP of Palamau, Kameshwar Baitha, is contesting as an independent candidate.
