Supporters in Madurai, the political base of former Union minister M K Alagiri, expelled from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) by his father and party supremo M Karunanidhi, have decided to campaign for the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
This comes after Alagiri urged his supporters to defeat DMK candidates and advised them to vote according to their conscience for any other party.
According to A Pandian, a close aide of Alagiri, the decision was taken at a meeting on Thursday night and supporters would start campaigning for MDMK candidate Sivamuthu from Friday.
