The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday called a meeting of its newly elected MPs May 20 to elect its parliamentary party leader.
"Meeting of the BJP parliamentary party will be held May 20 at 12 noon to elect the leader of the parliamentary party," BJP president Rajnath Singh said at a press conference here.
"There is no need to tell who will be elected," Singh said, indicating that Narendra Modi will be elected to the post.
Modi, who was the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP, led the party to a spectacular victory in the Lok Sabha polls.
Singh said the party is yet to decide the date for the swearing in of the new prime minister.
The BJP has also set in motion a process to decide on Modi's successor in Gujarat. Modi has been the chief minister of the state since 2001.
