Case registered against Beni for violating poll code

A case has been registered against Union minister Beni Prasad Verma, Congress candidate Rajaram Pal and a party worker by the district administration today for allegedly making objectionable remarks against BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi.

The district administration found that Beni had violated the model code of conduct by his utterances against Modi on Sunday last after going through the footage of the election campaign of Akbarpur Lok Sabha candidate Rajaram.

In view of the findings, Ghatampur Returning officer was directed to register an FIR.

Accordingly cases were registered against the trio last night under section 177 (furnishing false information), 188 (disobedience to order), 144 (prohibitory orders) of IPC and 123 (3) (appeal to vote or refrain from voting on ground of religion) of Representation of People Act in Ghatampur police station, District Magistrate Roshan Jacob said in a release.
