Reiterating his charge against Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Friday said Chidambaram had lost the elections last time also, but the returning officer had made a false declaration about his win.
"Chidambaram not contesting elections is clear as last time also he had lost. It was by manipulation and rigging that a false declaration was made by the returning officer that he has been elected," said Swamy.
"There is a court case in which he has to answer. Even if the Parliament gets dissolved, the question is whether he should be barred for six years in future. That question has to be answered by the High Court in the election petition," he added.
Swamy also said that it is clear this time that not only Chidambaram is unpopular but the whole Congress Party is unpopular and, also added that nobody wants to strike an alliance with them.
On Thursday, the Congress had fielded Finance Minister P Chidambaram's Karti Chidambaram from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu. The omission of Chidambaram from the list of candidates strongly indicates that the Finance Minister will be nominated from the Rajya Sabha.
