Congress subverting institutions: Modi

Fulmination comes barely a day after Salman Khurshid heaped scorn on Supreme Court and EC's role on general elections in London

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress by terming it as “Institutions Neglecting Congress” (INC). The fulmination from Modi comes barely a day after external affairs minister Salman Khurshid heaped scorn on the Supreme Court and Election Commission’s (EC) role on the general elections at London.

“I wonder, which country our foreign minister, who visited London recently, is representing. India is proud of being world’s largest democracy where the election process is conducted in least time period and the results are declared in a day. The entire process is done by our EC while the counting for election in developed America take days,” said Modi in his Vijay Sankalp Samavesh rally at Sambalpur.

Instead of feeling proud, he is abusing the Election Commission in London stating that the commission is not letting them to speak, he rued.

The senior BJP leader said, Congress leader’s criticism of the public institutions stems from its desperation to find out a alibi for the electoral losses it is going to suffer in the ensuing polls.

Speaking at an event in London, Khurshid has reportedly said that the EC and the Supreme Court are issuing directions that will only ensure that a party will lose elections and not win them. He slammed the Supreme Court and the EC saying they direct political parties and parliamentarians to a great extent.

On Khurshid’s statement on Supreme Court, the Gujarat Chief minister said, today world relations are built on the judicial system. A foreign country intending for any capital investment in any country, checks the judicial system while this foreign minister is criticising the Supreme Court, he added.

“It is your responsibility Prime minister ji that your minister has criticised the two important institutions on foreign land”, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said apparently dragging the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh into the row.

“The name of Indian National Congress (INC) should be changed to Institutions Neglecting Congress. Their (Congress party) habit is to abuse, misuse, reduce and destroy all the constitutional institutions”, he asserted.

Taking a dig at the UPA government’s much touted Food Security legislation, Modi said, after 60 years Congress remembered to formulate a legislation for providing food.  “Till 60 years they (Congress) did not know that people have stomachs and they are hungry,” he added.

Modi criticised the Congress government for its failure to tame the rising inflation within 100 days as promised by the party. He accused Congress of neglecting tribals in India. “A separate ministry for tribals was constituted, a separate budget was made and they got their minister only when Vajpayee became PM,” claimed Modi.

He also criticised government for not bothering about the extensive damage of crops caused due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm in Madhya Pradesh. “Out of anger for not being voted for them(Congress), Prime Minister, their leaders and shehzaade are not at all worried for the farmers of Madhya Pradesh,” Modi slammed.
