EC demands CDs of speeches from pol parties

Observers were instructed to keep a tab on provocative or inflammatory speeches by candidates by keeping video recordings of all events

Press Trust of India Kolkata
Election Commission has instructed all CEOs that CDs of speeches at election rallies and public meetings should be submitted by organisers within six hours to the authorities who would give permission for the events.

Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal Sunil Gupta said the EC directive stated two CDs would have to be submitted within six hours of events.

The observers were instructed to keep a tab on provocative or inflammatory speeches by candidates by keeping video recordings of all events, he said.

Gupta said DM and SPs had been instructed to take prompt action in case of violation of the model code of conduct or for any electoral offence.

The CEO along with other officials would hold a video conference with SPs, police commissioners and returning officers to assess the law and order situation.

During the fourth phase of polls in former Maoist stronghold of junglemahal area, polling hours were reduced in some of the assembly segments, he said.

He said that a delegation of the election management body of Nepal would arrive here during the third phase as a part of South-South Cooperation initiative of the EC to study the conduct of polls in India.

The delegation would spend an entire day in one of the parliamentary seats which would be decided later.

Asked whether BJP candidate from Asansol singer Babul Supriyo had made any complaint to the commission, he replied in the negative.

He said the DM of that district had informed him and he had been asked to probe the alleged assault incident against the singer by TMC party workers during the day.

To a query, Gupta said the EC might conduct air surveillance over Junglemahal area during the polls there.
