The Election Commission of India has reprimanded two officials attached to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's office for poll code violation and asked them to withdraw their Facebook pages which the Congress had alleged an "active BJP campaigning" on social media.

"It is ordered that any propaganda which falls within the ambit of model code of conduct propagated via Facebook and other social media shall be removed forthwith and respondents are directed to desist from involving themselves in any such activities," the EC said in its order issued to the concerned officials.

The EC order came following a complaint by Congress party that CM's Under Secretary Siddharth Cuncolienkar and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Giriraj Vernekar were "actively involved" in campaigning for BJP on social media.

Taking cognisance of the plaint, the EC said, "All the content involving political propaganda should be removed from the social media page of these two officers working in the office of the CM".
