The Awareness Observer appointed by the Election Commission for Arunachal Pradesh has exhorted the poll officials to create awareness among people for participating in the April 9 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

"Engaging all eligible citizens in a free and fair manner in the democratic process is a prime requisite for participative, informed, effective, and healthy democracy," Dhiraj Kakadia, the Awareness Observer said while addressing the chairman and members of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at Pasighat in East Siang district yesterday, official sources said today.

Gradual decline in voters' participation in the election process is a major challenge for the democracy across India and for addressing the issue, the ECI has initiated a national program titled SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) for higher and more informed electoral participation of the citizens, he said.

"There is a need to enhance the participation of voters in the electoral process and SVEEP would help to overcome the gap in awareness of voters," asserted Kakadia.
