Announcement to be made today

Former Miss India and actress Gul Panag will be given an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket today from Chandigarh after Savita Bhatti's withdrawal from the seat.

Sources in the party said that senior leader Manish Sisodia will be in Chandigarh today to announce Panag's candidature from the region.

Panag's father Lt Gen (retd) H S Panag had joined AAP in February, however, he had ruled out contesting the elections.

Panag, 35, lives in Chandigarh and had won the Miss India title in 1999.

AAP was in a dire need of credible face in Chandigarh after Bhatti, wife of late actor Jaspal Bhatti, opted out of the fray citing lack of interaction and and coordination within the party.

She had refused to contest only a week after the party had announced her candidature.
