An intelligence report accusing Bihar Assembly Speaker and Janata Dal (United)'s candidate for the Jamui parliamentary seat, Uday Narayan Chaudhary, of having links with Maoists, has brought the ruling party on the back foot. Whereas it has also given fresh salvo to the opposition parties to target Nitish Kumar led state government.

JD (U) leaders today had a hard time rebutting the intelligence input, which has alleged that the state assembly speaker has reached an understanding with the Maoists and they had given assurances to support him during the elections scheduled on April 10.

The report was submitted to the Home Ministry on Monday. The report suggested that Chaudhary had recently contacted a senior Maoist leader in the area and persuaded him to support the JD (U) in elections. The report has alleged that in return of their support the Maoist leaders were offered money.

"There are many intelligence reports submitted to the Home ministry every day," says state JD (U) chief Vashistha Narayan Singh, "this does not mean that every report is true. There are several loop holes in the system. We should also keep that in mind."

Meanwhile, Chaudhary, himself, rubbished the report and termed it as a conspiracy of his political opponents and strongly denied having any links with the Naxals.

"These allegations are completely baseless. I do not have any links with the Naxals. It is nothing but a conspiracy of my opponents. I am going to win and this is why they are hatching conspiracy against me," said a furious Chaudhary. He also demanded proof from the intelligence agencies and said otherwise he would be forced to take legal actions against them.

Chaudhary is fighting a tough electoral battle here against debutant Chirag Paswan, son of LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan.
