Kiran party claims code violation by Centre

Says no case to hurriedly constitute a committee to identify location for new state capital at time of going to elections

Former chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's Jai Samaikhyandhra Party today petitioned with the Central Election Commission against the appointment of a committee for the purpose of selecting the new capital for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.

It said the Government of India's action was clearly aimed at polarising certain sections of society in Andhra Pradesh besides violating the model code of conduct. A party spokesperson said the EC had responded by promising to take a view on the complaint tomorrow.

The petition held that while Hyderabad was made a common capital for both Telangana and residuary AP for the next 10 years, there was no case to hurriedly constitute a committee to identify the location for the new state capital at the time of going to the elections.
