Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati today took swipe at a section of media for allegedly targetting the party with misleading and fabricated stories.
Addressing a news conference here, she cautioned the BSP cadre against those media persons, who were nursing casteist mentality and running fabricated and baseless stories under a well hatched conspiracy. "Such stories are increasingly been run during election time," she underlined.
She referred to news items appearing in a section of media today, wherein it was claimed that Mayawati could possibly fight from Lalganj reserved constituency in Azamgarh district to take on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav in the political theatre of Purvanchal.
Modi and Yadav are fighting the Lok Sabha poll from Varanasi and Azamgarh constituencies respectively.
The news reports had also claimed BSP leaders Naseemuddin Siddiqui and Satish Chandra Mishra could fight from Azamgarh Sadar and Varanasi constituencies respectively to queer the pitch of opponents.
Rubbishing these news reports, Mayawati stressed such news were being spread by unreliable sources for vested interests.
"BSP had decided on the candidature for these three seats much in advance, which would under no circumstances be changed or removed now," she reiterated.
The party has also released the list of Lok Sabha poll candidates from all the 80 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
