LS election 2014: UP Police seize large cache of arms, ammunition

Besides, the flying squads had seized Rs 2.22 crore in unaccounted money and almost 1.10 lakh litres of illicit liquor

In run up to the Lok Sabha poll 2014, Uttar Pradesh Police has so far seized a large quantity of arms, ammunition, explosives and bombs in different operations.

The state police has confiscated over 1,100 arms, 2,600 rounds of ammunition, 189 kg of explosives and 106 crude bombs.

Besides, the flying squads had seized Rs 2.22 crore in unaccounted money and almost 1.10 lakh litres of illicit liquor.

Ever since the Lok Sabha poll dates were announced on March 5 and model code of conduct was promulgated, the state excise, commercial tax and police departments have launched an ongoing campaign to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling going forward.

 

Meanwhile, the nomination process has already started in UP for the first and second phase of Lok Sabha polling.

The LS polls would be held in nine phases across the country.

UP would witness polling in six phases on April 10 (10 seats), April 17 (11 seats), April 24 (12 seats), April 30 (14 seats), May 7 (15 seats) and May 12 (18 seats).

Lucknow and Varanasi constituencies would see polling on April 30 and May 12 respectively.
