LS polls: Campaigning concludes for nine seats in WB

An electorate of 13943063, including 7261500 men would be eligible to exercise their franchise

Campaign ended today for nine Lok Sabha seats in the third of the five phase elections in West Bengal for the April 30 polling.

The seats where polling would be held are Howrah, Hooghly, Serampore, Bolpur, Arambagh, Burdwan East, Burdwan-Durgapur, Birbhum and Uluberia.

While it was to be seen whether the BJP could open it account in the nine seats, it was likely to garner a respectable percentage.

Among the 87 contestants prominent ones are BJP's Bappi Lahiri, journalist-turned politician Chandan Mitra, actor George Baker, TMC's sitting MPs Satabdi Roy, Kalyan Banerjee Sultan Ahmed, besides Prasun Banerjee, a former India soccer player and Congress candidate Abdul Mannan.
 
There are also 13 women nominees in fray.

Star campaigners were BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and veteran leader L K Advani and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.
