She said that media is giving undue attention to BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo, Mayawati on Friday said that the media has given undue attention to BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi which was not good for nation's democracy.

"The way the media has highlighted the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is not good for the nation's democracy. Therefore the Election Commission should take strong steps.

We have information that most of the crowd on his road show were brought from outside, while BJP has been projecting that the crowd belonged to the native place. The media also has been highlighting this so as to give benefit to the BJP. The projection is not true to ground realities," Mayawati said.

The BSP supremo stated that, "There is also a belief that big industrialists are spending on parties like the BJP and the Congress and when these parties come to power they provide undue benefit by giving business to them. Unless this is stopped the people will go backwards."

She remarked that even the astrologers have not been spared by the political parties, "Even the astrologers have been roped in and it is the BJP again which is leading the charts."

Mayawati asked the Election Commission to take steps to ensure peaceful polls in eastern Uttar Pradesh as there was a belief among the people that the Samajwadi Party and the BJP may flare upo communal tension during the remaining phase of elections

People ask why did not Narendra Modi fight this election from the constituencyi in Uttar Pradesh against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. There is a fear that the BJP and the Samajwadi party may use the communal card to influence the voters. So I want to say that the Election Commission should take precaution at temples, gurdwaras, mosques especially in Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh . The responsibility of safeguarding the religious institutions should not be left to the Uttar Pradesh government, The Election Commission should direct the central government," Mayawati added.
