If turnout is an indicator of poll results, then Trinamool Congress' Sen is expected to put up a good fight tomorrow when she takes on nine-time sitting MP from the CPI(M), Basudeb Acharia in Bankura. Bankura is one of the six seats that will go to poll in the fourth phase in West Bengal.
Sen apart, there are more celebrity candidates in fray in the penultimate phase. Sandhya Roy, one of the leading ladies of Bengali cinema in the 1960s, is contesting from Medinipur on a TMC ticket. Roy is pitted against CPI's Prabodh Panda. Singer, Babul Supriya, from the BJP will be fighting against TMC's Dola Sen.
Of the six seats--Bankura, Jhargram, Purulia, Medinipur, Bishnupur, Asansol--the Left Front had won four in the last Lok Sabha elections. However, in the assembly segments, the TMC-Congress combine had made major inroads in 2011.
Political observers believe that tomorrow's phase will be crucial as the Election Commission will be stepping up security arrangements, after some 2,000 complaints in the third phase. Moreover, much to the TMC's dismay, the Saradha controversy has refused to die down.
The Enforcement Directorate is planning to get suspended TMC MP, Kunal Ghosh, and Saradha promoter, Sudipta Sen, to the interrogation table. Some other TMC leaders could be called upon, as well.
