Jashodaben, wife of BJP’s Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi, on Wednesday cast her vote at a polling booth in Unjha in Mehsana district in North Gujarat.

“Jashodaben cast her vote at 12:39 PM at a polling booth in Unjha in Mehsana. She offered prayers at a temple before casting her ballot,” said Ashok Modi, Jashodaben’s brother.

Her brothers (Ashok Modi and Kamlesh Modi) had earlier claimed that Jashodaben was on a pilgrimage and will talk to the media when she returns on May 17, a day after the Lok Sabha election results are declared.

However, Ashok Modi on Wednesday said that she had returned from her pilgrimage early.

Narendra Modi, in an affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers for the Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency on April 9, stated for the first time that he was married.

So far, Modi used to leave the “spouse” column in poll affidavits blank. He had left the column blank in the 2012 Assembly elections as well. Rival parties had attacked Modi for concealing his marital status in previous elections.

Polling to elect 26 Members of Parliament (MPs) from Gujarat were held on Wednesday.

The BJP, riding on Modi wave, is hoping to pocket all the seats while the Congress, facing anti-incumbency across the country, is banking on tribal and rural areas to emerge victorious.
