Opinion appears to be divided within JD(U) over extending support to AAP candidate Arvind Kejriwal in Varanasi with Bihar party chief Basistha Narayan Singh saying the organisation should have been consulted before going public on the issue.
"There should have been more consultation within the party before going in public over support to Kejriwal," he said seeking to keep distance from announcement of JD(U) General Secretary K C Tyagi on the issue.
Singh said he had talks with JD(U) President Sharad Yadav over the matter but he (Yadav) seemed unaware of the decision.
The Bihar JD(U) chief said since his party had stakes in Bihar, all its leaders were focussing on the last two phases of polls in general elections and engaged in campaigning and none had any plan to go to Varanasi for canvassing.
Taking cue from Tyagi's statement some state-level JD(U) spokesmen Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Neeraj Kumar had earlier this week said the party would extend support to Kejriwal in Varanasi against Narendra Modi who is in the fray there.
