All Indian Women Congress President Shobha Oza on Thursday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's decision to hide the truth about his marital status might have been taken to climb up the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ranks.

"Modi did not find it important all these years to reveal his marital status. While he was alleged in snoopgate allegations, he has been telling people that he is unmarried. Maybe he has hid it to climb the ladder of RSS," said Oza.

"There is a column for marital status every time you fight elections and he didn't mention it all these years. How can he talk about respecting women when he didn't give any respect to his wife?" she asked.

"The Gujarat government has also given an affidavit that the woman was stalked. Modi needs to answer to the nation as to why he hid the truth about his wife for this long," she added.

She also said that Modi was manipulating people when he spoke about women's safety.

"It is about a person's personality. When he talks about women and their safety, he is only manipulating people. He had to confront the facts because the court made it clear that all the details must be filled in," she added.

It is being reported that Modi in his poll affidavit, which he filed on Wednesday from Vadodara, has written the name of 'Jashodaben' in the column of spouse.

It was also reported that since 2001, Modi have been leaving the column blank whenever he filed his form for election. In his rallies too, Modi has claimed to be 'single' and unmarried.

Recently, in an interview with a private newspaper, 62-year-old Jashodaben, a retired school teacher, had said that she was married to Modi, but had separated from him after three years.

She is now living with her brother in a village in Gujarat and gets a monthly pension of Rs. 14000.
