Priyanka Vadra on Thursday made it clear she would campaign only in the constituencies of her mother, Sonia Gandhi, and brother, Rahul, in an indication that she was not ready to expand her role as of now as demanded by some Congress leaders. She also dismissed talk that there was any 'Modi wave' in the country as claimed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I will be in Amethi (Rahul's constituency) and Rae Bareli (Sonia Gandhi's constituency)”, 42-year-old Priyanka, accompanied by husband Robert Vadra, said after casting her vote at a polling booth in Lodhi Estate here.
Priyanka’s remarks come in the backdrop of a growing demand by some Congress leaders, including Madhusudan Mistry and Shobha Oza, for a bigger role for her in the party. Party General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi had created a buzz recently when he talked about Priyanka being a very political person and that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had told him in 1990 about the politically-sharp mind of his daughter. Priyanka had also recently met party seniors at the residence of Rahul here, apart from attending some routine ones for election planning.
