In the first elections being held to the Legislative Assembly post bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh (AP), the Telugu Desam-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance will secure nearly two-thirds majority in Seemandhra (coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema) and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will emerge as the single largest party in Telangana, according to an exit poll survey conducted by former Congress MP from Vijayawada, Lagadapati Rajagopal.
Rajagopal, who had quit politics in protest against the Centre’s decision to bifurcate the state, said the TDP-BJP combine would get 115-125 seats in Seemandhra comprising a total of 175 Assembly segments and form the government in the residual state of AP.
According to the exit poll survey, released by Rajagopal on Wednesday, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which has been perceived by many to be in the forefront for forming the government in Seemandhra, will get just 45-55 seats. The Congress, which had decided to divide the state, is nowhere in the reckoning.
In the new state of Telangana, Rajagopal predicted, TRS would get 50-60 out of the 119 Assembly seats and most likely form the government. The Congress party, the nearest rival to TRS, would bag 30-40 seats while the TDP-BJP combine would secure 18-22 seats. All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) would win 7-9 seats.
Coming to the Lok Sabha elections, held simultaneously with that of the Assembly, the survey report predicted that the TDP-BJP alliance would win 19-22 out of the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Seemandhra. The tally of the ruling Congress party would be zero.
In Telangana, according to the survey, the TRS will get 8-10, Congress 3-5, TDP-BJP 3-4 and MIM 1 seat out of a total of 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the region.
Rajagopal’s election surveys acquired significance ever since he correctly predicted that in the 2009 general elections the Congress, on whose ticket he had contested, would get 155 Assembly and 33 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
In that elections Congress had actually won 156 Assembly and 33 Lok Sabha seats in AP.
