Satpal Maharaj joins BJP, quits Congress

Rajnath Singh said BJP will get a big boost with Satpal Maharaj joining the party

Senior Congress leader from Uttarakhand, Satpal Maharaj, today resigned from the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Welcoming him into party fold, BJP president Rajnath Singh said that the party will be strengthened in the state.

"BJP will get a big boost with Satpal Maharaj joining the party," said Singh.

Maharaj, a former Union Minister, praised BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said, "I am very happy to join the party."

Earlier today, Maharaj, Congress MP from Garhwal having support of 11 other party MLAs resigned from the Congress.
