Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi are leading in Rae Bareli and Amethi with the party itself leading in only three seats out of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Sonia is ahead of her nearest rival BJP's Ajay Agarwal by a margin of over 1,55,233 votes while Rahul is a ahead of BJP's Smriti Irani by 8022 votes. Rahul had won the 2009 elections from the seat by over 3.70 lakh votes.
However, party candidate and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid was trailing on the fifth spot even behind the independent candidate in Farrukhabad seat.

His daugter-in-law, Dimple Yadav is leading Kannauj by 25,124 over her nearest rival Subrat Pathak of BJP.
Yadav's nephew Akshay Yadav is leading by 9247 votes from Firozabad while another nephew Dharmedra Yadav is leading by 22,773 from Badaun.
BJP's young face Varun Gandhi is leading from Sultanpur while his mother Maneka Gandhi is leading from Pilibhit with a comfortable margin of over 90,000 votes.
Varun is ahead of his nearest rival Pawan Pandey with a margin of 38,000 votes while Maneka is ahead with a margin of 90,435 votes from Pilibhit over her nearest rival Samajwadi Party's Budhsen Verma.
Mukesh Rajput of BJP is leading the tally by a margin of 12,251 votes from Rameshwar Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party.
On the third spot is BSP while independent Sachin Yadav is on the fourth spot.
BJP candidate Uma Bharti, who is heading towards victory in Jhansi, attributed the winning trends to the disenchantment and anger of the people towards the UPA.
"There was immense anger among the public towards the UPA and that is the reason why BJP is getting success in both the BJP and Congress-ruled states", she told reporters.
The BJP leader, while attributing her success to the people of the constituency, god and Narendra Modi, said she would be fulfilling the promises made to the electorate here including creation of a separate Bundelkhand state.
Stressing that "very good days were ahead for Bundelkhand", Bharti said she would also work for checking the exodus from the region because of hardships faced here.
