TDP-BJP alliance intact: Javadekar

BS Reporter Hyderabad
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Friday said his party's alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for the 2014 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Seemandhra and Telangana was very much intact. "It is there. The alliance will continue," said Javadekar, who is also in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, after holding discussions for two hours with TDP's President, Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Javadekar said the BJP agreed to give away the Ichchapuram seat in Srikakulam to the TDP, and would get an MLC (member of legislative council) seat in exchange.

The BJP-TDP electoral alliance, announced on April 6, came under strain after Naidu expressed displeasure over the BJP fielding "weak" candidates in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh, and said it would mar the prospects of his party.

Subsequently, the alliance ran into trouble with TDP leaders filing nominations from three Assembly constituencies - Madanapalle, Santhanuthalapadu and Rajahmundry - originally given to the BJP under the pact.

Under the alliance, the BJP would now contest in four of the 25 Lok Sabha seats and 13 of the 175 Assembly seats in Seemandhra.
