Actor-turned politician A Vijayakant today said that if India needs to become a superpower Narendra Modi must become the Prime Minister of the Country. This is the first time the founder and leader of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), which according to reports, has finalised a deal on Saturday, openly asked to vote for BJP-led alliance.
Speaking at the Arakkonam rally, Vijaykanth said "if India needs to become a superpower Narendra Modi must become the Prime Minister. Modi has done great developmental work in Gujarat. We believe in and our partners (BJP) and the allies are believing on Modi".
BJP managed to rope in other parties including Vaiko-led MDMK, PMK and others.While listing some of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led Government's infrastructure project, especially Golden Quadrilateral, he said "if more such useful projects should come in the country and if Tamil Nadu should develop then BJP-led Government should come in the Centre," he said.
In his address at the rally, he spoke mostly on issues relates to Tamil Nadu including power, water, agriculture, law and order and others.
On Saturday, reports have stated that the BJP managed to convince Vijayakant-led DMDK by allocating 14 seats in the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu.
Local media, including Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun TV, have started flashing the 14 constituencies names, which were allocated to DMDK, and also stated that an official announcement will be made by BJP National President Rajnat Singh tonight. When contacted BJP's Media co-coordinator for Tamil Nadu said the talks are in final stage and will be finalised by tomorrow.
According to reports, the 14 constituencies includes Thiruvallore, Central Chennai, North Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchi, Nellai, Vilupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, TV malai, Pollachi, Namakkal and Dindugal.
DMDK managed to grab the main opposition chairs at the State Assembly after it won 29 assembly seats in the 2011 Assembly Election, while it contested in 41 sets. The Party managed to grab the chairs, which was traditionally with the Dravidian parties. Till 2011, the state politics was dominated by the two dravidian parties - the J Jayalaithaa-led by AIADMK and M Karunanidhi-led DMK.
During the 2011 assembly elections, AIADMK was voted to power, the party bagged 150 seats, after Karunanidhi's Government, which bagged 23 seats, has handed over the state administration to AIADMK. The DMDK choose to partner with the AIADMK in the 2011 assembly polls.
