Transport official absent, bus owners boycott meet

The preparation for the ensuing Lok Sabha election hit a roadblock when transporters raised their protest against giving vehicles for the elections.

The local authorities have been acquiring buses, trucks and other vehicles during election time to facilitate transport arrangement. The vehicles are used to move security personnel, polling parties and other election related works.

On Thursday, additional transport commissioner H K Rathore convened a meeting of transporters to discuss the issue. The meeting however missed the road even as transporters boycotted the meeting and protested against the process with which the authorities were planning to acquire the vehicles.
