Axis My India predicts big win for AAP in Punjab; Metrize predicts BJP will win 262-277 seats in UP; Times Now predicts slender win for BJP in Uttarakhand
Exit poll 2022 LIVE updates: The seventh and final phase of Uttar Pradesh elections 2022 is underway and will end at 6 pm today, bringing the curtains down on these fiercely contested polls held in five states. The results of exit polls for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur will be broadcast from 7 pm today, after the end of polling. Votes will be counted on March 10.
UP exit poll 2022: While the BJP won in Uttar Pradesh with a sweeping mandate in 2017, this election is expected to be a referendum on the government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was criticised over his handling of the second wave of Covid as images of bodies floating down the Ganga shocked the nation. While the chief challenger to the BJP in the state is expected to be Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, also in the running are the Congress, led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, whose supporters can influence the results across 20 seats.
Most people in Uttar Pradesh vote along social and religious lines, forcing parties to appeal to more than one group to clinch a vote share of more than 30 per cent that can deliver a landslide win under India's first-past-the-post system.
Punjab exit poll 2022 prediction: Punjab witnessed a multi-cornered election this time. The Congress, BJP, Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab Lok Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, and Bahujan Samaj Party are the key political groups vying for power in the state.
Meanwhile, AAP is confident to throw Congress out of power.
Uttarakhand exit poll 2022 result LIVE: In Uttarakhand, the Assembly polls have been predicted to be a tight race between the incumbent BJP and its main challenger, the Congress. The hill state has always witnessed a close contest between the two parties, which corner nearly a third of total votes each, leaving a third for others. This has been the case in three out of four Assembly elections in the state since its formation.
Goa exit poll 2022 LIVE updates: Goa witnessed one of the its tempestuous elections in recent times. There is no clear-cut indication if any party will be able to touch the magic mark of 21 in the 40-member House. Amid anti-incumbency, the BJP is hoping for a third term, while the Congress has been able to regroup itself and is now the main challenger to the saffron party. The presence of the AAP and TMC has created a perception of division of votes.
Manipur exit poll 2022 prediction LIVE updates: Since there are no pre-poll alliances except for the Congress-CPI one, result day could see a balancing of the power structure. This will determine who forms the government and who sits in the chief minister’s chair.
The NPP, NPF and JD(U), which have been part of the BJP-led coalition government, have expressed dissatisfaction with the Biren Singh government. All three parties have claimed that they will “play kingmaker”.
Who conducts the exit polls?
The polls are conducted by private firms and media organisations such as Today's Chanakya, ABP-Cvoter, News18, India Today-Axis, Times Now-CNX, NewsX-Neta, Republic-Jan Ki Baat, Republic-CVoter, ABP-CSDS and Chintamani.
