NDPP-BJP wins 15 seats in Nagaland, leading in 21

The NDPP-BJP alliance won 15 seats in Nagaland Assembly election and is leading in 21 constituencies, officials said on Thursday.

Elections were held for 59 Assembly seats on February 27, as the Akuluto seat has been won uncontested by BJP nominee Kazheto Kinimi.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) won 11 seats while the BJP won four seats. The NDPP is leading in 13 seats while the BJP is ahead in eight constituencies, the election commission website said.

Tripura Assembly elections: BJP-ITFP alliance win 4 seats

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)- Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (ITFP) alliance won four Assembly seats, as per the latest counting trends shared by the Election Commission (EC) at 1.30 pm on Thursday.

The BJP was leading in 29 seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 11, the Congress in 3 seats and the Tipra Motha of Pradyut Deb Barman in 12.

The IPFT's Sukla Charan Noatia won from the Jolaibari constituency defeating CPIM's Debendra Tripura by 375 votes.

Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma thanks people for voting for NPP

Amid the counting of the Assembly election votes in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday thanked the people of the state for voting for the ruling National People's Party (NPP).

"I thank the people of the state for voting our party. We are very thankful to them. We are short by few numbers of course and we will wait for the final result to come out and then we will decide how to go," he said while addressing reporters here.

Currently, the NPP is much ahead from the other major parties, including the opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress.

Hekhani Jakhalu created history on Thursday by becoming the first woman to be elected to the Nagaland Assembly, officials said.

Jakhalu, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate for the Dimapur III seat defeated her nearest rival Azheto Zhimomi of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) by 1,536 votes, the Election Commission of India, said.

Four women candidates - Hekhani Jakhaulu, Salhoutuo Kruse, Hukali Sema and Rosy Thompson - contested the Nagaland Assembly election this time.

BJP lauds Centre's peace, development initiatives in northeast as it leaves rivals behind in Tripura

The BJP on Thursday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's agenda of peace and development in the northeast as the party led in a majority of seats in Tripura while its alliance appeared set to retain power in Nagaland. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said people in the region have seen for the first time how closely and sincerely the Centre has worked to bring in the region peace and development, be it big projects like building highways or providing them with basic amenities like drinking water, free ration and electricity.

Meghalaya results: NPP surges ahead, BJP losing leads; Trinamool & Congress trailing

After the third round of counting, the ruling National People's Party (NPP) is in the driving seat in Meghalaya.

As per the latest trend, NPP is leading in 24 seats out of the 60 Assembly constituencies, polls for which were held on February 27.

The opposition parties, Congress and Trinamool Congress are trailing by a huge margin to NPP. Both parties are now leading in five seats each.

The ruling NDPP-BJP alliance won three seats and is leading in 35 seats in the Nagaland Assembly election, the Election Commission of India said on Thursday.

The Akuluto seat has been won uncontested by BJP nominee Kazheto Kinimi while BJP candidate P Bashangmongba Chang won the Tuensang Sadar-I seat and NDPP nominee S Keoshu Yimchunger won Shamator Chessore Assembly constituency in Nagaland, EC said.

We were expecting more seats and will do a post-election analysis as to why it didn't happen. I'm going to collect the (winning) certificate. The date for the swearing-in ceremony will be decided after consultation with the central leadership, says Tripura CM Manik Saha. 

We had said earlier also that BJP will once again form the government with the majority and the results so far are showing that we are forming the government. I thank PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh and all party workers, he added.

Sagardighi bypoll: Congress' lead margin increases to 8,000 after 7th round

After the seventh round of counting of votes for the by-elections to Sagardighi Assembly constituency, the Left Front-supported Congress candidate Bayron Biswas's lead margin has further increased to over to 8,000 votes pitting Trinamool Congress candidate Debasish Bandopadhyay in the second position.

BJP's Dilip Saha continues to be in the third position.

After the first three rounds of counting at Sagardighi, which were mainly concentrated in pockets with a mixed religious population of voters, from the fourth round, counting started in those pockets where the minority voters are predominantly the dominant factors.

The UDP was ahead in nine constituencies, while the BJP and the Trinamool Congress were ahead in five seats each, and the Congress and the Voice of the People Party (VPP) were leading in four seats each.

Meghalaya Assembly elections: CM Conrad Sangma's National People's Party leading in 17 of total 59 seats

The ruling National People's Party (NPP) was leading in 17 of the 59 Assembly constituencies of Meghalaya while the United Democratic Party (UDP) was leading in 9, according to the latest counting trends shared by the Election Commission on Thursday.

The counting of votes is still underway, and trends in the remaining 47 seats are not yet known.

According to the data shared by the EC at 10.32 am, NPP chief and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was leading the BJP's Bernard N Marak by 44 votes in South Tura constituency.

The ruling BJP in Tripura was leading in 29 seats, while the opposition Left-Congress alliance was ahead in 17 seats as counting of votes was underway on Thursday for the assembly elections.

The Tipra Motha was leading in 12 seats, while BJP ally IPFT was leading in one seat. An independent candidate was also leading, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Individually, the CPI(M) was ahead in 12 seats and the Congress in five seats.

NDPP-BJP alliance leading in 25 seats in Nagaland, Rio takes lead of 6,394 votes in Northern Angami II seat

The ruling NDPP-BJP alliance is leading in 25 seats in the Nagaland Assembly election as per early trends, the Election Commission of India said on Thursday.

Counting of votes for the 59 Nagaland Assembly seats started at 8 am with postal ballots followed by EVMs.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) was ahead in 18 seats while its alliance partner the BJP was leading in seven seats, the EC said. The NDPP and BJP fought the election on a 40:20 seat sharing agreement.
