A total of 3,776 candidates are in the fray in the Tamil Nadu 2016 Assembly polls to be held on May 16 (Monday). Of these, 1,107 candidates are from 11 major parties.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysed self-sworn affidavits of 997 of the 1,107 candidates contesting from major parties.
Affidavits of 110 of these candidates were illegible and could not be analysed. Of the 997 candidates, 283 (28 per cent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.
