The All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRREA)'s proposed strike on March 30 has been deferred following the government assurance to consider their demands.

"The proposed strike was deferred after conciliation with the government", said Dilip Kumar Mukherjee, secretary general of the association. AIRRBEA had called a strike on March 30 in support of its six point charter of demands.

These included implementation of pension scheme for the rural bank employees at par with their counterparts in nationalized banks, amalgamation of all RRBs in the country and formation of the National Rural Bank (NRB) etc.

The representative of the Central government apprised the Central Labour Commissioner (CLC) during the discussion that the government was actively considering paying pension to the RRB employees, said Mukherjee.

The government representative also revealed that the government was ready to issue orders in this regard, if the department of law permits it to do so.
