The finance ministry is likely to decide on reviewing the credit targets of public sector banks (PSBs) for this financial year after taking stock of loan growth figures in the Reserve Bank's credit policy review slated for October 30.

"We will take a call on reviewing the credit growth targets given by PSU banks in their statements of intent to the government after RBI comes out with credit review and gives out credit growth figures," official sources said.

However, the targets would be reviewed on a case-to-case basis and not for the whole banking sector, they added.

The sources said unless RBI's figures were studied, there was no point in reviewing the targets of PSU banks.

Similarly, the ministry will also review the other targets by banks such as deposit growth after RBI's assessment.
