Banks in Gujarat post robust growth in deposits : SLBC

Banks operating in Gujarat registered a robust growth in deposits and as of September 2009, deposits stood at Rs. 2,06,301 crore, an increase of Rs. 51,468 crore over March 2008.

The aggregate deposits of banks in Gujarat stood at Rs. 1,96,984 crores as of June, 2009 , the quarterly report of State Level Banker's Committee (SLBC) said.

NRI deposits have increased by Rs. 422 crore in the state during the Julyeptember quarter. "During the quarter July-September 2009, the NRI deposits increased by Rs. 422 crore and stood at Rs. 22,258 crore forming 10.78 per cent of the total deposits as of September, 2009 ," said Mukesh Kumar Jain, SLBC convener and General Manager of Dena Bank,Gujarat.

 

As per SLBC data, deposits of the State Bank Group increased from Rs. 38,690 crore in September 2008 to Rs. 50,883 crore as on September 2009. Nationalised banks' registered 21.29 per cent growth in collecting deposits from Rs. 94,722 crore in September 2008 to Rs. 1,14,890 crore in September 2009.

Deposits of private banks increased modestly by Rs. 217 crore from Rs 25,972 crore in September, 2008 to 26,189 crore in September, 2009.
