"New farmers in the state will be eligible for fresh loans after the farm loan waiver. State cooperatives themselves would account for 6.5 lakh farmers. To meet this additional demand, we have approached Nabard for an allocation of Rs 730 crore," said WBSCB Chairman Samir Ghosh.
WBSCB enjoyed a farm loan waiver of Rs 525 crore. The bank received Rs 580 crore as crop loan assistance from Nabard this year and disbursed Rs 950 crore as crop loans till March 31, 2008.
"The cooperatives and rural banks in the state are running out of resources for meeting the additional demand due to the fresh loaners. The government should thus reimburse the waiver amount immediately," Ghosh said.
Nabard Chief General Manager P Mohanaiah confirmed the request.
