Canara Bank launches campaign for its services

Canara Bank, with the objective to serve rural areas, launched Canara Gramin Vikas Vahini scheme in Lucknow today.
 
The bank is introducing the scheme in order to create awareness among the rural households on various banking facilities involving people's participation.
 
Five vans are being deployed for the public campaign in 21 districts of the state, of which three vans will be exclusively operating in the bank's lead districts namely, Agra, Aligarh, Etah and Hathras. These publicity vans would be equipped with multimedia projectors and audiovisual equipment.
 
"Bank branches would obtain the feedback from the rural populace and design suitable programmes assessing the requirements of the villagers. Technical assistance from the trained agriculture extension officers and branch officials would be provided during the tour of the publicity vehicle," said P Krishna Rao, general manager, circle office, Lucknow.
 
No fill accounts targeting the rural populace, thrust for forming more self help groups (SHGs) in urban and metro regions apart from credit linking the eligible will be incorporated for intensive campaigning of its financial products in the state.
 
"The bank has set a goal to open one million no frill accounts by March, 2008," Rao said.
 
Agriculture production commissioner of Uttar Pradesh flagged off the campaign.
