Haryana Cooperation Minister Paramvir Singh said that the central cooperative banks in the state would provide a loan of Rs 8,600 crore during the current financial year to the farmers. These banks had provided loans worth Rs 4,306.60 crore during the last financial year to the farmers under various schemes.
The minister said the Central Cooperatives Banks in the state had disbursed short and medium terms loans amounting to Rs 25,000 crore to the farmers up to 2008-09. He said the Central Cooperative Banks of Haryana had benefitted 2,60,756 small and marginal farmers by waiving off Rs 830.78 crore under the Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme of the Centre.
The Cooperation Minister said the state government had also implemented another welfare scheme for the farmers. Under the scheme farmers who would deposit 75 per cent of their overdue loans, their remaining 25 per cent would be waived off.
