Corporation Bank entered its centenary year on Saturday. From a humble beginning with a capital of Rs 5,000 and a deposit of Rs 3,000 on the opening day, the bank grew over the years.

The bank was nationalised in 1980 and in the post-nationalisation period, the bank grew rapidly on all fronts and emerged as a premier public sector bank.

The Centenary Celebrations were flagged off with the Foundation Day Lecture which was delivered by V Leeladhar, deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India. The topic of the lecture was 'Managing Talent in Banks'.

As a part of the centenary year, the bank has planned several development projects such as setting up a library, rural development activities with thrust on education and launching innovative products including technology-driven products.

As a first step, the bank launched the Corp Kisan Card "" a debit card tied up with VISA international. This is to enable farmers to make timely purchases for their agriculture operations.
