ESI plans IT rollout

Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is looking at an extensive Information Technology(IT) roll out plan, which will connect all its branch offices, dispensaries and hospitals countrywide, to a central data base for making information easily accessible and also for providing other benefits.

Global tenders have already been floated last week and ESI Corporation expects to finalise the system integrator by November.

Speaking on the sidelines of an interactive session, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce(ICC), P.C. Chaturvedi, director general of ESI Corporation, said, "We are going to implement an IT roll out plan, where all our branch offices, dispensaries and hospitals, will be connected to a central data base on a countrywide basis, so that information is easily accessible.It will also provide many benefits to our insured people, so that they do not have to run from pillar to post for acquiring information, for filing returns or while paying contributions.We have already floated global tenders and expect to finalise the system integrator by November."

 

The project which has been slated to be completed by September 2010, will be executed through a BOT(Built Operate Transfer) mode while service charges will be provided by ESI Corporation

Along with this, two smart cards will also be issued to the families of the insured people.

This apart, several amendments will be made in the ESI Corporation Act, which will be tabled in the next session of the parliament, for further simplification of the act and to meet current crunch of manpower,

ESI Corporation is also coming up with two medical colleges in Baltikuri and Joka in Kolkata and the session is likely to commence from next year.

It is planning to come up with one such college in every state where 25 per cent management quota will be reserved for the wards of the insured people, employers and employees of the corporation.

In addition to this, ESI Corporation has also constituted hospital development committee at local levels where all local stakeholders will be members with financial autonomy, to execute decisions and for upgradation of infrastructure at the local level, with funds directly provided by ESI Corporation.
